Form is found when space is made functional.
There’s something magical about the first true summer weekend in Ontario. You feel it in the light breeze through open windows, the hum of bees around the garden, and the scent of sunscreen on freshly showered kids running barefoot through the grass. If you’ve ever spent time in cottage country, you know exactly what I mean.
One of my favourite Ontario summer memories is renting a large, beautifully appointed home up in the Blue Mountain area with my three in-laws and their families. It was a full house—cousins, card games, cooking in shifts, and late-night karaoke on the patio. But what made it feel like a true retreat (instead of chaos) was how well we planned ahead. We each arrived to a space that worked for us. Organized food zones. Extra beach towels. Pre-stocked first aid kits and backup sunscreen. It made everything feel lighter, smoother—like the vacation started the moment we walked through the door.
Now that I’m a professional organizer, I help my clients create that same feeling: ease, elegance, and thoughtful systems that support your summer rhythm. Whether you own your lakehouse or are renting a stunning property for a few weeks, these are the three essentials I recommend you put in place before the season begins.
When you’re walking through the front door with sleepy kids, groceries in hand, and a car full of weekender bags, the last thing you want to do is dig through boxes looking for bug spray or garbage bags. That’s why I always recommend creating what I call a “First Weekend Bin.”
Include your favourite toiletries, citronella candles, kitchen cloths, scissors, extra chargers, bug spray, sunscreen, and other summer home essentials.
Store in a lidded, structured basket labeled “Arrival Essentials” and keep it easily accessible.
Add a few personalized touches like a printed grocery list for the nearest market, guest Wi-Fi codes, and even a small deck of cards or a book of matches.
When your entry is set up to anticipate your day, everything feels easier. You can come and go without a second thought—and that’s the real luxury.
Simons – for pretty yet practical home accessories
Well.ca – natural sunscreen, bug spray, and reusable first aid items
Urban Barn – stylish, sturdy storage baskets
This bin isn’t just about logistics—it’s about protecting your energy. Arriving to a calm, well-prepped space sets the tone for your whole stay and helps you shift out of “mom mode” and into relaxation faster.
Let’s be honest: entertaining at the cottage is fun only when the kitchen’s not working against you. The goal? A capsule kitchen that’s curated to match your actual summer habits—not just stocked for show.
Group items by experience, not by shelf: breakfast bar, happy hour tray, quick snacks for the kids.
Use clear, matching containers with minimalist labels to create visual calm in the pantry.
Stick to a few beautiful, functional tools: great knives, a serving board, and a salad spinner that actually works
Kitchen Stuff Plus – affordable, Canadian kitchen tools and drawer organizers
Zahra's Place – premium labels and jars
Crate and Barrel – elevated pieces like linen napkins and serving boards
Feeding your family should feel joyful, not overwhelming. A well-organized summer kitchen invites ease, supports healthier choices, and leaves more time for the moments that matter—like catching fireflies or sipping something cold at sunset
When I packed for our Blue Mountain trip, I kept it simple: neutral sundresses, easy sandals, a sunhat I actually love. But my favourite part was how easy it was to get dressed each morning—I had already rotated out everything that didn’t belong in my summer life. My clients feel the same when we build this out together.
Use labeled garment bags and totes to rotate pieces in and out of cottage closets
Store off-season clothes with breathable fabric bins and include a cedar or lavender sachet for freshness
Build a capsule wardrobe that reflects your real summer: beach mornings, wine with friends, chasing kids
Home Edit at Canadian Tire – pretty and functional closet organizers
Henkerman – elegant wooden hangers to protect delicate fabrics
Sage – linen sprays and sustainable scents care
Your wardrobe influences your mindset. An intentional seasonal closet can help you feel more in control, more put-together, and more in tune with the life you’re living now—not the one that ended in April.
There’s a quiet luxury in being prepared. In opening the door to a space that’s already supporting you. If you're a woman who already outsources things like cleaning, landscaping, or wardrobe consulting—you deserve that same ease when it comes to organizing your seasonal home.
And if you don’t have the time or desire to set all this up yourself? That’s what I’m here for. From packing support to in-home seasonal setups, my team and I take care of the logistics so you can enjoy more of the summer you’ve worked so hard for.
Let’s make it beautiful, intentional, and totally stress-free.
