ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area after my parents immigrated from the Caribbean in the late 70's. Currently I call Durham Region home.
Armed with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a major in Information Technology I started my career in 2005 as a Business Systems Analyst. In this role I transformed cluttered business requirements into streamlined processes using technology and automation.
When my career pivoted in 2012, I took on the Commercial Real Estate industry by using my gifts of management, organization, and process improvement. My experience in managing a diverse campus of buildings to running a province-wide planning program has sharpened my eye for finding efficiencies and opportunities where others see obstacles.
I am a mother and a wife who believes everyone can live in a space that is pleasing to the senses and reflects the heart of those who live there. Creating an environment of elegance, form and function by decluttering, categorizing and organizing is why I created Form and Function by Kira. I am excited to streamline your lifestyle and create a space customized for how you use it.
I sincerely believe form is found when space is made functional.

There are two kinds of people I come across in July.
The first group wonders where the month is disappearing to. Every weekend is booked, evenings are spent at baseball, patios, BBQs, concerts, or the cottage, and the house somehow never quite catches up.
The second group is intentionally slowing down. They're taking vacation time, spending afternoons in the backyard, reading a book on the deck, or simply trying to enjoy the season without feeling like they should constantly be tidying.
No matter which camp you're in, here's the good news:
Your home doesn't need to be perfectly organized to stay functional.
In fact, the best organizing systems are the ones that work even when you're busy—or when you simply don't feel like doing much.
Here are three of my favourite organizing shortcuts that help your home stay under control without adding more to your to-do list.
One of the biggest reasons clutter builds up is because things don't have an easy landing spot.
Instead of expecting everyone to put everything away immediately, create one intentional place where everyday items can land temporarily.
Think about things like:
Sunglasses
Wallets
Keys
Sunscreen
Hats
Water bottles
A decorative tray, basket, or small bin near your entryway or kitchen counter instantly contains the visual clutter.
Is it perfectly organized? Maybe not.
Does it stop everything from ending up all over the house? Absolutely.
Sometimes "contained" is good enough.

This is probably one of the simplest tricks I recommend to clients.
Keep a basket on each level of your home.
When you're heading upstairs or downstairs, toss in anything that belongs on the other floor.
Instead of making five separate trips during the day, you make one quick trip carrying everything at once.
It sounds almost too simple, but those little moments add up and prevent clutter from spreading from room to room.
Even better? Ask your kids to grab the basket when they're heading upstairs. Suddenly everyone is helping without feeling like they're doing a big chore.

One mistake I see every year is people trying to maintain the same organizing systems they use in January.
Summer is different.
Beach towels get used every day.
Flip-flops never seem to make it back to the closet.
Pool toys migrate across the backyard.
Instead of fighting the season, adjust your systems.
Keep beach towels in a basket by the door.
Store sunscreen where you'll actually use it.
Create one bin for all outdoor essentials.
Temporary solutions for temporary seasons often work better than trying to force everything back into its "proper" place every single day.
Your systems should fit your life—not the other way around.

If your home feels a little less tidy in July, that's okay.
The goal isn't to spend your summer cleaning.
The goal is to have systems that make it easier to enjoy your home, spend time with the people you love, and keep life moving without feeling overwhelmed by clutter.
Sometimes the best organizing hack isn't buying another container.
It's giving yourself permission to make things simpler.
If your current systems are creating more work than they're saving, I'd love to help.
Together, we can create organizing solutions that work for your real life—not just for the perfectly staged version you see online.

Kira
