ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area after my parents immigrated from the Caribbean in the late 70's. Currently I call Durham Region home.
Armed with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a major in Information Technology I started my career in 2005 as a Business Systems Analyst. In this role I transformed cluttered business requirements into streamlined processes using technology and automation.
When my career pivoted in 2012, I took on the Commercial Real Estate industry by using my gifts of management, organization, and process improvement. My experience in managing a diverse campus of buildings to running a province-wide planning program has sharpened my eye for finding efficiencies and opportunities where others see obstacles.
I am a mother and a wife who believes everyone can live in a space that is pleasing to the senses and reflects the heart of those who live there. Creating an environment of elegance, form and function by decluttering, categorizing and organizing is why I created Form and Function by Kira. I am excited to streamline your lifestyle and create a space customized for how you use it.
I sincerely believe form is found when space is made functional.

The countdown to summer feels a little different in our house these days.
My son is in high school now, and every June I find myself reflecting on how much this season has changed. There was a time when the end of the school year meant figuring out childcare, planning summer camps, and trying to keep a young child entertained while balancing work and home life.
Now, the conversations are different. He's more independent. He's making more of his own plans. There are friends, activities, and a social calendar that sometimes seems busier than mine. Yet despite all those changes, one thing remains the same: the transition from the school year to summer can still feel a little chaotic.
The routines we've relied on for months suddenly disappear. Backpacks are dropped by the door for the last time. Papers and projects come home in piles. Summer gear starts appearing from storage. Before long, the house can feel like it's caught somewhere between one season ending and another beginning.
As parents, we're often so focused on getting through the final weeks of school that we don't think about preparing for what comes next.
I've learned that spending a little time getting organized before school ends can make the entire summer feel calmer and more enjoyable. It doesn't require a complete overhaul of your home—just a few intentional steps that help your family transition smoothly into the months ahead.
Here are five simple ways to set your family up for a more organized summer.
Summer comes with its own collection of stuff: sunscreen, hats, water bottles, sports equipment, towels, bug spray, flip-flops, and outdoor toys.
Instead of letting these items scatter throughout the house, designate one area where everything summer-related lives.
A mudroom, front closet, garage shelf, or even a few baskets by the door can make getting out of the house much easier. When everything has a home, you're less likely to be running around looking for a missing water bottle five minutes before soccer practice.

Now is the perfect time to sort through school papers, artwork, backpacks, lunch bags, and supplies.
Rather than bringing everything home and dealing with it later, create a simple system:
Keep the items that are meaningful.
Recycle what you no longer need.
Store special keepsakes in a memory box.
You'll start summer with less clutter and avoid facing a mountain of school-related items in September.

Kids grow quickly, and summer is often when it becomes obvious.
Take a quick look through closets and drawers to identify clothing that no longer fits. Remove winter items that won't be needed for several months and make room for summer essentials.
This doesn't need to be a major project. Even spending 20 minutes on each child's closet can save time and frustration throughout the season.

Summer schedules can be surprisingly busy.
Between camps, vacations, sports, family gatherings, and appointments, it helps to have one place where everyone can see what's happening.
Whether it's a wall calendar, a whiteboard, or a shared digital calendar, having a central location for important dates helps reduce last-minute surprises and keeps everyone on the same page.

Think about meals, snacks, laundry, and household responsibilities before the break begins. Establishing a few simple expectations early can prevent frustration later.
The goal isn't to schedule every minute of the day. It's simply to create enough structure that your home continues to run smoothly while leaving plenty of room for spontaneous summer fun.

Summer doesn't have to feel overwhelming.
By spending a little time organizing now, you can create a smoother transition from the school year to summer break and give yourself more time to enjoy the moments that matter most.
As a parent myself, I know how quickly these seasons come and go. One minute you're packing lunches and helping with homework, and the next you're planning summer adventures and wondering how your kids grew up so fast.
A few small organizing projects today can help you spend less time managing your home and more time making memories this summer.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by the clutter that's accumulated throughout the school year, I'd love to help. Book a consultation and let's create organized, functional spaces that make summer feel lighter, calmer, and more enjoyable for your family.
Be Well,
Kira
